Genuspraktiker, masterprogram

Do you want to change the world? Do you want to challenge social and cultural norms about gender, ethnicity, sexuality, class, functionality? Are you interested in working with issues of gender and equality in your everyday practice? Then Gendering Practices is the masters programme for you. Making you familiar with theories of power relations and equality work, this programme will help you develop a reflexive approach to your practical work, and provide you with methodological insights into the field of Gender Studies and research.

Gendering Practices will prepare you for an international labour market that requires advanced knowledges about and critical perspectives on power relations, equality work, and social and cultural norms. Drawing on the strength of the interdisciplinary field of Gender Studies the programme prepares the students for different parts of the labour market. It also prepares students for doctoral studies in Gender Studies, depending on the optional courses that each student choose to include in their eduction, the programme can also be a preparation for doctoral studies in other disciplines. Contents of the programme

The programme is structured around the conviction that gendering practices is an interdisciplinary field, and that theory and practice are intertwined. The programme, as a whole, focuses on the complexity of gendering practices and the development of a meta-theoretical perspective on knowledge production. The overall objective of the curriculum is to build a platform for interdisciplinary encounters between different academic disciplines, generating new ways of understanding and working with gendered practices.

The first semester consists of two programme courses: Theoretical Perspectives in Gender Studies and Methodologies in Gender Studies.

During the second semester the students take programme specific courses of at least 15 hec, and 15 hec elective courses at the Department of Cultural Sciences, or another Higher Educational Institution. The programme specific courses are the following: GS2101 Critical Studies on Gender Equality (15 hec), Policy and Diversity (15 hec); GS2207 Body Politics and Feminist Perspectives (15 hec); GS2304 Equality Work and Public Administration (15 hec); GS3001 Independent Explorations in a Field of Gender Studies (7,5 hec).

The first part of the third semester consist of 8 weeks (15 hec) internship. The internship could be performed in a workplace, in an organisation as well as in a research project.  The latter part of the semester is reserved for the programme course Interdisciplinary Challenges in Gender Studies.

During the fourth semester all students complete a Masters thesis.
