Masters Degree Thesis Preparation

The course is an introduction to the craft of writing a Masters degree (i.e., two-year degree) thesis. Thecourse provides a map of the research and writing process and initiates the students into the processesof both research and writing. The course is divided into three parts. In the first part students learn tomap out the research and writing processes. In the second part students independently choose a field ofinquiry in relation to their thesis, which they then learn to master at the appropriate level, including theconstruction of a preliminary research bibliography for the thesis. In the third part the students work onformulating their problem statement, which enables them to begin the writing process.By the end of the course the student is expected to be able to:- describe the research process;- describe the writing process;- critically analyze an independently chosen field of research;- independently formulate a problem statement;- construct a preliminary research bibliography for their thesis
