Göteborgs universitetPraktisk hydrografi
The University of Gothenburgs Department of Marine Sciences is offering a 20-week (30 credits) masters course in Practical Hydrography. Students will obtain all of the necessary skills for collecting and processing seabed and water column information for high-resolution bathymetric mapping. This information, traditionally used for charting of waterways, is also useful for the development of seabed thematic maps, which are essential for coastal zone management, habitat mapping and environment monitoring.
This applied mapping course will take advantage of GUs state-of-the-art research vessel Skagerak and its modern mapping systems, including high-resolution multibeam and sub-bottom acoustic systems and high-accuracy GNSS positioning and orientation systems. Students will learn state-of-the-art data collection and processing procedures and software, commonly used in industry. This course will provide students with a skillset that is highly coveted in the ocean mapping research and commercial offshore industry, which can lead to a challenging and rewarding career in mapping of the worlds rivers, lakes, seas and oceans.
This course is delivered through a collaboration between the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, Stockholm University, the Swedish Maritime Administration and MMT (Marin Mätteknik).
