Global Studies: Key Concepts

The course gives an introduction to a conceptual and empirical inquiry on globalisation from an interdisciplinary perspective including human ecology, peace and development studies, regional studies and social anthropology. The course will introduce key concepts used to analyse the contemporary process of globalisation such as disembeddedness, homogenisation, interconnectedness, mobility, mixing and reembeddedness. The course will encourage students to reflect critically on questions of how the local and the global relate to each other and how contemporary globalisation affects life prospects, environments, gender relations, livelihoods, and conflict patterns in different parts of the world.
